Program of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants

The positive effects of medicinal and aromatic plants on human health have led to their intense use. While these plants were previously collected from nature according to traditional methods, with the protection of natural resources and the concepts of sustainability come to the fore recently, educated manpower has a great importance in collecting plants from nature based on scientific knowledge, agriculture, processing, marketing and usage methods. In the ninth development plan, carrying out research and development activities in the fields needed by the industrial and commercial life in Turkey in recent years and the necessity of training researcher staff suitable for these fields is emphasized. In Turkey, approximately 40% of the people are still to deal with agriculture. With the increasing importance of medicinal and aromatic plants, especially in developed countries, the herbal medicine and cosmetics industry will become rapidly developing sectors, and there will be a need for expert manpower in this field.

Graduates of this program, who received the title of Medical and Aromatic Plants Technician; Companies that import and export medicinal plants, laboratories that manufacture herbal medicines, sectors that grow or collect these plants, businesses that produce and sell medicinal plant drugs, herbalists, beauty salons, pharmacies that make and sell herbal medicines, aromatherapy centers, perfumery and cosmetics industry, as well as related organizations within the Ministry of Agriculture, Environment and Forestry, criminology and forensic medicine laboratories related to narcotic plants and plant-based smuggling, controls of imported and exported herbal products at customs, herbarium and plant laboratories in the relevant departments of universities, can be employed as auxiliary technical personnel. In addition, they can establish business areas operating in this field in the light of the knowledge they have learned.

Students who graduate from this program can transfer to the Agricultural Engineering and Culture Plants Production and Marketing  undergraduate program with the Vertical Transfer Exam.
